ROR is a scam. I am a hurt consumer which filed a complaint on ROR. We even won a lawsuit against this company but wanted to warn other consumers of what happened to us. Ed apparently did an investigation which was no investigation as he never asked us for any information while conducting this "investigation". Instead, the company which scammed us agreed to enter into a program for X amount of dollars (per an email I believe it was $50 a month) and Ed then posted that the company did nothing wrong. We called and email ED all the information to show that the company refused to cooperate with us, we won a default judgment against the company and other consumers called us with similar complaints. He has refused to post our rebuttal to his editorial note. What may have started out as a venue for hurt consumers is nothing but a scam to make money off the unfortunate circumstances of those who were truly injured. Ed has created a false sense of security for consumers...I hope he can live with that.

Well, the RipOff Report is a forum. Kind of like this one. How can it be a scam unless it is stealing money from customers, or doing devious things.??
Blog owners NEVER take responsibility for content, so I am suspicious of anyone who attacks the blog owners in this case.
The only complaint can be that ROR do not stand fast to their own principles. They promise never to remove a posting in return for money. This is quite a strong promise to make, and we would be most interested to see evidence that they ever caved in for a bribe. When a blog owner can be influenced by money it damages its credibility. But is that your beef?
RipOff Report is indeed another forum. But this forum, ROR is NOT about basket-weaving or dog-walking. It is about scams and frauds. Therein lies its importance. Can't say what its owners make from advertising, but that is irrelevant.
ROR should be judged by how much it serves its beneficiaries - i.e. scam watchers and victims of fraud (and boy are there a lot of us!) and the ROR is valuable insofar as it helps victims of crime to network. Helps others avoid being scammed, too. (No, I'm not out to promote; ROR is not unique. Look at Salty Droid and the Complaints Board for comparisons)
There aren't enough consumer protections and effective remedies. The BBB is too busy, the ICCC can't keep up with cyber-criminals and the FTC is failing.
So, Daniel, if you have advice to protect consumers from cyber crime or just plain racketeering, how would you do it, then? Demonstrate it can be done without the rule-book ROR pledges to use. Tell us why your opinion is legit. Give us details, instead of vague, bombastic, useless ranting.
As for the whimpering from identifiable 'merchants' who got some bad reviews, I say: if you disagree, you have the right of reply at the ROR. It is as easy as making a posting, and your comment is accessible on the same page as the complaint.
When it comes to publishing complaints, I never noticed an unreasonable limit to the amount of detail the ROR allows. Indeed, one scam victim of the notorious John Raygoza, published over 40 pages of evidence on ROR. Fair enough. Raygoza the King replied, too, though no other victim is fooled by Raygoza's sleazy obfuscation and excuses. (Rat Raygoza took $40,000 from his victim; never denied it either! - read it for yourself)
Main point is this; whatever defects exist in the ROR, they are insignificant bumps alongside the outrageous mountain of crime that disfigures the commercial landscape of the USA. The internet itself is not called scam-land for nothing, either. Whatever the foibles of the forum owners, the principles behind ROR are too important to be belittled.
All forums contain inaccuracies, including yours. But to call a free forum a scam just because someone you know (my own buddy! ) was offended by it is blatantly childish. Grow up.

It's the negative, non- valid reviews that hurt people's mindset more than anything else. The only thing worth believing and trusting is your own experiences. I've had several marketing buddies spending needless time countering false claims there, when those people could have merely contacting the program/product owners directly via their helpdesks...

Lotsa times, people are really ranting about their inability to understand and implement proven business practices, so places like RipOff report and their outlets for making it ALL seem like lack of success is really not their fault, when it really is!

The only way to make Ripoffreport.com cease to exist is to remove the protection they have via CDA 230 that gives them immunity. There should be petitions to senators and house of rep members to revise the CDA 230 written back in 1996 when internet was dial up and government was wanting to increase utilization of it. Here is what needs to be done....make a petition to house of representative and senators in every state.....Magedson will be bankrupt ONLY after this happens and all his websites will cease to exist....

http://en.wikipedia.or/wiki/Section_230_of_the_Communications_Decency_Act
if an ICP, and certainly an ICF, has reason to know, or anticipate, that at least some of the postings on their website are defamatory, false, anonymous, annoying, or harassing in nature, then they should be considered a co-author of the defamatory, false, anonymous, annoying, or harassing postings, and just as liable as the original poster, losing their CDA 230 immunity completely, and be subject to full monetary, legal, and equitable damages by an aggrieved party.

This is, imho, an irresponsible article. RipOff Reports DOES allow all kinds of scam reports, and if some are the result of one unhappy customer, that should be obvious to the reader.

RipOff Reports serves a very useful purpose in that it documents the number and nature of complaints for any given business listed there. When the complaints are many, and reasons similar, thank goodness for a site that reflects the bad business or scam practices so that others will not fall for the scams.

Checking out a business there is informed decision making. Check out the reports on John Raygoza, Ted Molina, Push Traffic and IncFortune, and tell me that RipOff Reports isn't a valid resource!
